Morocco has the Middle Atlas, High Atlas and Anti Atlas. The High Atlas is the highest, with Toubkal Mountain stretching to 4,165 metres. Anti Atlas does not reach higher than 2531 metres at the most, but still has some of the most rugged landscape. The Middle Atlas reaches 3,350 metres.
Seuraava päivä oli helppoa ajoa Marrakeshiin, jossa myös yövyimme. Kävimme siellä mm. itämaisessa basaarissa ja söimme illallisen katukeittiössä.
Nyt olemme Ait-Ben-Hadoussa, joka on tunnettu hiekkalinnoistaan. Täällä on kuvattu useita elokuvia, esimerkiksi Gladiaattorit on tehty täällä. Meillä on tänään harvinainen hotellimajoitus. Seison nyt täällä hotellin katolla ja tähtään satellittipuhelimen antennilla kohtisuoraan taivasta kohti. Taivas on pilvetön ja näköala hieno.

Pihalla ovat kaikki 25 sitikkaa ja huoltoautot. Pieniä huoltotoimia on tehty, joitakin pikkuongelmia on ollut autojen kanssa. Meidän Kymppi on toiminut kyllä tosi hyvin.
Mieliala on erinomainen, on ollut hienoa ajaa. Meillä on Juhan kanssa sopimus, että kumpikin ajaa tankillisen kerrallaan, sitten vaihdetaan kuskia. Mutta kun on oikein haastelliset maastot, tekee kyllä mieli keskustella että pääsen ajamaan myös kaverin vuorolla. Minullehan kaikkein suurin intohimo on itse ajaminen.
Meillä on yleensä ollut tapana, että kun on päästy etapille, heti syödään. Nyt on hieman tottumista, kun näillä on tapana vielä säätää jotain ihmejuttuja ennen kuin ruvetaan laittamaan ruokaa, sitä pitää odottaa aina ainakin pari tuntia.
Porukka on hyvin koossa. Vain yksi vanhahko mies on joutunut lopettamaan rallinsa terveyssyistä.
Huomenna on taas odotettavissa rankkaa ajoa, kun lähdemme vuorille, nyt High Atlakselle. Ajamme vuorten yli rannikolle yhden päivän ajan, sitten on tiedossa kaksi pitkää ajopäivää Länsi-Saharaa kohti. Mahdollisesti raportoin seuraavan kerran Mauretanian rajalta.
Tämä satelliittipuhelin on hauska peli, ihan kuin matkapuhelimet vuonna 1996. Nämä on kyllä tehty selvästi oikeakätisille. Kun pidin tätä vasemmassa kädessä kun äsken yritin soittaa, ei onnistunut. Nyt pidän tätä oikeassa kädessä ja antenni kohti taivasta – ja hyvin toimii ☺. Kun tutustuin tähän vehkeeseen, oli kuin olisi ollut aikamatkalla. Tämä on ihan samannäköinen ja toimiikin kuin 90-luvun matkapuhelimet. Terveiset kaikille!

Tough on the road in Morocco
For two days we were driving in very hard circumstances in Middle Atlas, 2.500m high. The soil was just mixed snow and mud, and we had to use all possible means to try to drive on. The cars were pushed, drawn, dug up from the mud… Two days excruciatingly hard.
The next day we had an easy drive towards Marrakesh, where we stayed overnight, too. We visited a souk and had supper in the street kitchen.
Now we are staying in Ait-Ben-Hadou, which is famous for its sand castles. They have filmed many here movies, e.g. The Gladiators. This is our first and only stay in a hotel during the trail. I am standing now on the roof of the hotel and directing the aerial of my satellite mobile phone directly to the sky. The sky is clear and the view great. I see all the Sitikkas as well as the trucks down there.
Everything has gone all right, only one older man has given up the trail because of a health problem during the journey. There have been some small problems with the cars. Our Sitikka 10 has functioned great.
I am in high spirits– it has been so great to drive. As you know, driving is my number 1 passion . Normally we change the driver after the petrol tank empties. But sometimes, when the terrain and conditions are very challenging, I want the driving turn right away…
Normally when we are trailing with Juha, we have supper as soon as we have reached the stage. Now, these people here have some really funny and queer things to do before even starting to make food – we need to wait at least two hours. It takes some effort to get used to.
Tomorrow we will drive back to the mountains, now to High Atlas. It will be as rough as some days ago. We'll drive over the mountains towards the western coast. Then there will be two long-driving days to the Western Sahara.
Perhaps I will report next time from the frontier of Mauritania.
